Athenaeum Theatre – 401 East Michigan Street, Indianapolis, IN
BOBDIREX opens its 5th year in Indianapolis with the American Tribal Love-Rock Musical, HAIR.
HAIR opened on Broadway in 1968 as a product of the hippie counterculture and sexual revolution with many of its songs becoming anthems of the anti-Vietnam War peace movement. The Rado/Ragni/MacDermot musical ran 1,750 performances with a 2009 Broadway revival winning the Tony for best revival of a musical. “Today HAIR seems, if anything, more daring than ever“…Time Magazine.
HAIR is the story of a ‘tribe’ who struggle to balance their young lives, loves, and the sexual revolution with their rebellion against the war, their conservative parents and conservative America. The Indianapolis production is newly cast and will head into rehearsal soon to meet its July 5 opening date. The musical is directed by Bob Harbin.
The Athenaeum Theatre is once again the home of BOBDIREX and this Athenaeum Docent Club production. The show opens July 5 and runs for 3 weekends closing July 20. Evening performances are at 7:30 and the Sunday matinees are at 3pm. Tickets are $25 with discounts for Seniors and groups of 20 or more. Because of its subject matter, language and brief nudity, HAIR is only for Mature Audiences. There is ample street parking around the building and a lot just east of the Athenaeum. The Rathskeller Restaurant is located in the basement of the building.
